A workshop “Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation” was organized under the TRANSTEM Project at MU-Varna. The event, held on June 1, 2024, at MU-Varna, brought together specialists from transplantation centers in Sofia and Varna, along with hematologists from across the country. The international guest speaker was Dr. Maria Stamouli from the University Hospital of Athens, Greece.
The opening speech was delivered by Prof. Dr. Violeta Yotova, Vice-Rector for Science at MU-Varna, who addressed the audience with the words: “We must create a scientific product that is translated to the clinical practice. All our efforts should aim to benefit patients and enhance their medical care.”
Prof. Dr. Igor Reznik, Coordinator of the TRANSTEM Project outlined: “We have discussed the possibilities for collaborative research and joint utilization of facilities. Significant attention has been placed on analyzing patients currently in clinics who present real clinical questions that lack clear solutions. We have exchanged expert opinions and shared these questions and treatment options with the audience.”
The event also featured young researchers from the TRANSTEM project, including hematologists, pediatricians, geneticists, and immunologists from MU-Varna. The workshop, set to continue in 2025, demonstrates the translational capacity of TRANSTEM to bridge the gap between basic science and clinical application.
