Biography

Manlio Vinciguerra was born in 1976 in Catania, Italy. He has graduated in Biological Sciences at the University of Catania, Italy, in 1999.

He has done his PhD at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, studying the mechanisms linking sodium transport and inflammation in the renal collecting duct (2001-2004). He has been postdoctoral fellow at the same University of Geneva (2005-2008) working on cell signalling in liver diseases, and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany (2008-2011), working on epigenetics and heart regeneration. In 2012 he became Principal Research Associate at the Faculty of Medicine, University College London (UCL), London, United Kingdom, leading a team working on epigenetics and liver diseases and regeneration. In 2016 he became Principal Investigator at the International Clinical Research Center, St’Anne University Hospital, Brno, Czech Republic, leading a team working on epigenetics, metabolism and aging. In 2020 he became European Research Area (ERA) Chair at the Medical University of Varna, leading a team and launching a wide research project on epigenetics, non-communicable diseases and stem cells.
